55 Degrees -- Tres Chic
Located in Sacramento's power corridor (my term don't anybody steal that) just down the street from the Capital, this is a top establishment all the way. This is one of the spots that Sac's elite come to enjoy a drink, play and schmooze. Now I'm not saying that we are part of that elite crowd but if they eat this good all the time, where do I sign up...
Service, impeccable -- water glass never less than half full.
Food exquisite. I'll get into that in a sec.
Host and waitress - on top of their games.
Margaret and I both started with a beet salad with goat cheese. Classy, small in size, but very tasty. The girls had their usual - mussels. Kali had Thai flavored mussels served in a Japanese style sushi boat; the kind that traditionally would sushi and a main course. Melia had the beer flavored mussels in a steel serving tray. In a word they were VERY GOOD!! I know that's two but one word would not due them justice. The girls each ate about 20 or so mussels and were very happy with their dinner choices.
My salmon was served with mashed potatoes and a light Thai coconut sauce, or something similar. I almost licked the plate but my darling wife was giving me the eagle eye in between bites of her perfectly prepared steak. 55 Degrees features petite fritters (french fries for the less civilized who may read this) that put McDonald's to shame. The happy clown dude at the yellow and red establishment would serve a whole lot more than a billion if he featured these bad boys on his dollar menu...
All in all we experience and excellent meal, great service that was not over the top and a great atmosphere at a place that I'd love to go back to... as soon as my commissions kick in.
